In week 3, you will learn about the Crusades—called upon by the Pope himself, lasting hundreds of years, and spanning three continents—which ultimately changed Europe forever.
Some consider the Crusades to be a violent clash of eastern and western religious thought; yet others believe it to be a series of attempts to thwart off the aggressions of an enemy. Throughout the lesson, you will investigate causes for the Crusades, the reasoning behind the movement itself, and the impact it has had on subsequent cultures.
As always, a list of this week's readings are located below, but can also be found within their respective sections. Given the limited discussion on the topic of the Crusades, you will not be using your textbook for this week. Instead, primary sources make up our reading list. You have the entire week to complete all assignments, but keep in mind that everything (except the week 3 group assessment) is due by midnight, April 13th. You are still responsible for responding to at least TWO of your classmate's posts by April 18th.
